Research Summary:

 History: Started in 1972-Updated

Brief on the most important researches:

Facile synthesis of heterocyclic & heterocyclic quinone compounds and related quaternary salts & metal complexes

as main entities for photo sensitizer fluorescence cyanine dyes synthesis, Their spectrophotometric , solvatochromic

, pH-sensitive behaviors & structure-microbial activity relationship, heterocyclic cyanine dyes as acid-base indicators

(bio-indicator) in potentiometric (bio-analytical) applications. Cyanine dye metal complexes synthesis. Electrochemical

behaviour of some selected dyes Kinetic formation (hydrolysis) & their interactions. Progress & development in

synthetic methodology of cyanine dyes..

Brief on the most important results and conclusions:

A-Special attention on the spectral behaviour of Ethanolic of all the newly synthesized heterocyclic cyanine dye

derivatives in the visible region permit a criterion for their use as  photosensitizers.. The results showed that the

position of absorption bands (their molar extinction coefficients) are influenced by the nature of substituents

and heterocyclic quaternary or Anhydro base involved, linkage position, heterocyclic metal chelator moieties. and

molecular structure.

B: The solvatochromic behaviour of some selected newly synthesized dyes in different pure and mixed solvents

permits a selection of the optimal solvent (fractional solvent) when these dyes are applied as photosensitizers.

C-The spectral behaviour of some selected newly synthesized cyanine dyes in aqueous universal buffer solutions and

their dissociation (protonation) constants (pKa values) permits acid-base properties or acidobaso chromic behaviour

when these dyes are applied as photosensitizers.

D-The metal ion concentration detection using newly synthesized cyanine dyes  permits a selection of the optimal

metal ion concentration when these dyes are applied as metal ion concentration detectors.

Brief on the most important application or result that have been used or applied:

1-Analytical Application of Dyes as Acid-Base Indicators in photometric Titrations, Bio-Application as Bactericidal & fungicidal Agents (Ragab M.Abu El-Hamd, Ph.D.1988).

2-Application of Dyes as corrosion Inhibitors (A.M.M.El-Kody, M.Sc Thesis, (2002).
